COMPOSITION:
Per ml. solution: Oxytetracycline dihydrate 200 mg
DESCRIPTION:
Oxytetracycline is a broad-spectrum antibiotic with bacteriostatic action against a large number of gram-positive and gram-negative organisms (such as streptococci, staphylococci, Pasteurella spp, Brucella spp, Corynebacteria spp, Erysipelothrix, Coliformi, Salmonella) and Rickettsiae, Mycoplasma, Chlamydia and some protozoa. The action against Pseudomonas, Proteus and Klebsiella spp is low.
Applied parenterally, oxytetracycline quickly penetrates the blood and tissues, but its advantage is its extremely long therapeutic effect. Oxytetracycline acts synergistically with polymyxin.
INDICATIONS:
Infections caused by microorganisms susceptible to oxytetracycline, such as respiratory tract infections (pneumonia, bronchopneumonia), urinary tract infections, enteritis, endometritis, mastitis, leg gangrene and Bedsonia in sheep.
CONTRAINDICATIONS:
Hypersensitivity to tetracycline, serious disturbances in the kidneys and/or liver. Combination with penicillin and cephalosporin is allowed 5 days before or 5 days after vaccination.
SIDE EFFECTS:
Hypersensitivity reaction, irritation at the injection site.
INCOMPATIBILITY WITH OTHER MEDICINES OR SUBSTANCES:
Oxytetracycline is incompatible with preparations containing polyvalent cations (Ca++, Mg++, Fe++), due to their known interference with tetracycline.
DOSAGE AND METHOD OF ADMINISTRATION:
For a long-lasting effect, Oxy 20 LA is recommended for administration by deep intramuscular injections. Oxy 20 LA ensures a persistent level in the blood for at least 3 days. The high antibacterial level in the blood is reached within 30 minutes of injection.
Oxy 20 LA is suitable for therapy in acute infections.
The dose for intramuscular injections in cows, pigs, sheep and goats is 20 mg/kg body, 1 ml Oxy 20 LA /10 kg gc.
For cows, a dose higher than 20 ml is not recommended
In pigs not more than 10 ml
In sheep and goats not more than 5 ml per single injection
In piglets under 10 kg, the dose of 1 ml should be used.
WAITING PERIOD:
Meat: 28 days.
Milk: 7 days
