ACTIVE SUBSTANCE
Oxytocin 10 IU/ ml
INDICATIONS
The product is administered to cows, mare, sow, sheep, goat, bitch and cat:
During calving, in case of reduced uterine contractions and in exhausted animals, to amplify the efforts to expel the fetus.
In case of placental retention, to accelerate uterine involution and for the complete detachment and elimination of the fetal membranes.
For the release of residual milk in the treatment of mastitis and postpartum agalactia in sows.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Do not use in parturitions with complications (too large fetuses, abnormal fetal positions, uterine torsion) or with obstructions of the expulsion pathway.
Do not administer in case of hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients.
ADVERSE REACTIONS
High doses of oxytocin can cause spastic contractions or even stop the progress of parturition, premature detachment of the placenta, bradycardia, arrhythmias and even fetal death.
TARGET SPECIES
Cow, horse, pig, sheep, goat, dog and cat.
DOSAGE FOR EACH SPECIES, ROUTE AND METHOD OF ADMINISTRATION
The product can be administered intramuscularly or intravenously.
Doses in case of intramuscular administration:
in cow: 40 – 50 I.U. (4 – 5 ml).
in mare: 30 – 40 I.U. (3 – 4 ml).
in sheep and goat: 15 – 20 I.U. (1.5 – 2 ml).
in sow: 20 – 40 I.U. (2 – 4 ml).
for bitches: 2 – 10 IU depending on size (0.2 – 1 ml).
for cats: 1 – 10 IU depending on size (0.1 – 1 ml).
Dosages for intravenous administration:
for cows: 20 – 30 IU (2 – 3 ml).
for mare: 10 – 20 IU (1 – 2 ml).
for sows: 10 – 20 IU (1 – 2 ml).
for sheep and goats: 5 – 10 IU (0.5 – 1 ml).
for bitches: 2 – 10 IU (0.2 – 1 ml).
for cats: 1 – 5 IU (0.1 – 0.5 ml).
The minimum doses will be administered first. After 20-30 minutes, if necessary, higher doses can be administered.
RECOMMENDATIONS ON CORRECT ADMINISTRATION
For intravenous administration, the product should be diluted in two parts of physiological saline and the injection should be done slowly.
WITHDRAWAL TIME
Meat and offal: 0 days.
SPECIAL STORAGE PRECAUTIONS
Keep out of the reach and sight of children.
Store at 2 – 8 ºC, in the original packaging.
Do not use after the expiry date stated on the label.
Shelf life after first opening the primary packaging: 14 days
SPECIAL WARNINGS
Special warnings for each target species
The product should be administered to parturient animals after careful checking of the cervix, which must be sufficiently dilated and the fetus must be in a eutocic position.
Special precautions for use in animals
Treated animals should not be stressed, as epinephrine released during stress may reduce the effect of oxytocin.
Exogenous oxytocin is not recommended for increasing milk production.
Special precautions to be taken by the person administering the veterinary medicinal product to animals
The product should be injected carefully to avoid self-injection. In case of accidental self-injection, seek medical advice immediately and show the package leaflet or the label to the physician.
Pregnant women should avoid handling this veterinary medicinal product.
People with known hypersensitivity to the active substance should avoid contact with the veterinary medicinal product.
Use during pregnancy and lactation
Do not administer to pregnant females until parturition.
It can be administered during lactation, only in the situations indicated in section 4.2 (for the release of residual milk in the treatment of mastitis and postpartum agalactia in sows).
Interactions with other medicinal products or other forms of interaction
If administered concomitantly with other products containing vasoconstrictor substances, hypertension may occur.
It is also not administered concomitantly with products containing corticosteroids, sympathomimetics or anesthetics.
Overdose (symptoms, emergency procedures, antidotes)
The recommended doses should be followed.
Incompatibilities
In the absence of compatibility studies, this veterinary medicinal product must not be mixed with other veterinary medicinal products.
SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS FOR THE DISPOSAL OF UNUSED PRODUCTS OR WASTE MATERIALS, IF ANY
Medicinal products should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste.
Ask your veterinarian how to dispose of medicines no longer required. These measures will help to protect the environment.
