Description:
For the treatment of constipation (e.g. due to intestinal atony after surgery, hairballs, massive intestinal contents).
For symptomatic treatment of pathological conditions requiring facilitation of defecation (e.g. partial obstructions due to tumours and fractures, rectal diverticulum, proctitis and intoxication, for example).
Ingredients:

Method of administration:
Oral.
Form of presentation:
Cardboard box of 1 vial of 125 ml with a 5 ml oral syringe.
Dosage:
Dogs and cats: 400 mg of lactulose per kg of body weight per day, corresponding to 0.6 ml of veterinary medicinal product per kg of body weight per day. It should preferably be divided into 2-3 doses throughout the day. The dose can be adjusted as needed.
It may take about 2-3 days of treatment before the effects of the treatment appear.
Contact a veterinarian to adjust treatment if abdominal discomfort or diarrhoea occurs.
The veterinary medicinal product can be mixed with food or administered directly into the mouth.
Possible side effects:
At the beginning of treatment, signs of flatulence, gastric distension, cramps, etc., frequently appear, but these generally subside over time. Diarrhoea and dehydration are signs of (relative) overdose; If they occur, a veterinarian should be consulted.
The frequency of adverse reactions is defined using the following convention:
– very common (more than 1 in 10 treated animals experiencing adverse reactions during a
treatment)
– common (more than 1 but less than 10 animals per 100 animals treated)
– uncommon (more than 1 but less than 10 animals per 1000 animals treated)
– rare (more than 1 but less than 10 animals per 10,000 animals treated)
– very rare (less than 1 animal in 10,000 animals treated, including isolated reports).
If you notice any side effects, even those not already included in this leaflet, or you think the medicine has not worked, please inform your veterinarian.
Precautions:
Special precautions for use in animals: Lactulose solution contains an amount of lactose and free galactose and may alter insulin requirements in diabetic patients. Use with caution in animals with pre–existing fluid and electrolyte imbalances, as lactulose may exacerbate these conditions if diarrhoea occurs.
Special precautions to be taken by the person administering the veterinary medicinal product to animals: This veterinary medicinal product may cause flatulence and diarrhoea. Accidental ingestion, especially by children, should be avoided. To avoid accidental ingestion, the veterinary medicinal product should be kept out of the reach of children. Always replace the cover after use.
This veterinary medicinal product contains benzyl alcohol. This preservative may cause hypersensitivity (allergic) reactions. People with known hypersensitivity to benzyl alcohol should avoid contact with the veterinary medicinal product. Wash your hands after use. In case of direct contact with skin or eyes, rinse with clean water. If irritation persists, seek medical advice.
Pregnancy and lactation: It can be used during pregnancy and lactation.
Overdose (symptoms, emergency procedures, antidote) (as appropriate): Overdose does not cause adverse reactions other than those listed in the adverse reactions section. Replace the fluid and electrolyte volume if necessary.
Interactions with other medicinal products and other forms of interaction: Not known.
Incompatibilities: In the absence of compatibility studies, this veterinary medicinal product should not be mixed with other veterinary medicinal products.
How to store:
Store in a place away from moisture and direct exposure to the sun, at temperatures up to 25°C.
