Description
Otoxola – Solution for the treatment of external otitis of both bacterial and fungal origin, caused by bacteria sensitive to marbofloxacin and fungi, especially Malassezia pachydermatis, sensitive to clotrimazole.
Active substances:
Clotrimazole, Dexamethasone, Marbofloxacin
Quantities to administer:
Apply ten drops in the ear once a day, for 7 to 14 days.
After 7 days of treatment, the veterinarian should evaluate the need to extend the treatment for another week.
The external auditory canal must be meticulously cleaned and dried before treatment.
Shake well for 30 seconds before use and press gently to fill the dropper with product.
After application, the base of the ear should be massaged briefly and carefully, to allow the product to reach the lower part of the auditory canal.
When the product is intended for use in more than one dog, use one dropper for each dog.
Route of administration:
Auricular administration
Special warnings for each target species:
Bacterial and fungal otitis are often secondary in nature. The underlying condition should be identified and treated.
Special precautions for use:
The integrity of the tympanic membrane should be checked before treatment with this product.
Use of the product should be based on susceptibility testing of bacteria and/or fungi isolated from the animal. If this is not possible, therapy should be based on local (regional) epidemiological information on the susceptibility of the target pathogens.
Official and local antimicrobial policies should be taken into account when using the veterinary medicinal product.
Intensive use of a single class of antibiotics may result in the induction of resistance in a bacterial population.
It is prudent to reserve fluoroquinolones for the treatment of clinical conditions that have responded poorly or are expected to respond poorly to other classes of antibiotics.
Quinolones have been associated with erosions of weight-bearing joints and other forms of arthropathy in young animals of various species. Use of the product in young animals is not recommended.
Prolonged and intensive use of topical corticosteroid products is known to cause local and systemic effects, including suppression of adrenal function, thinning of the epidermis and delayed wound healing.
Avoid contact with eyes in animals. In case of accidental contact, rinse thoroughly with water.
Use during pregnancy, lactation: Do not use during pregnancy and lactation.
Contraindications:
Do not use in dogs with a perforated tympanic membrane.
Do not use in case of hypersensitivity to the active substances, to other azole antifungal products, to any other fluoroquinolone or to any of the excipients.
Do not use in animals where pathogens are known to be resistant to marbofloxacin and/or clotrimazole.
Adverse reactions:
Adverse reactions usually associated with corticosteroids may be observed (changes in biochemical and haematological parameters, such as increased alkaline phosphatase and aminotransferase, limited neutrophilia).
In rare cases, the use of this product may be associated with deafness, especially in older dogs, which is usually transient.
Presentation:
Box with 1 bottle of 10 ml with dropper and screw cap and one dropper with cap.
Special precautions for storage:
Do not store above 30°C, Store in the original packaging, Protect from direct light
