Description:
Cardalis is used to treat congestive heart failure in dogs. This is a type of cardiovascular disease in which the heart can no longer pump enough blood throughout the body.

Ingredients:
Benazepril hydrochloride
Spironolactone

Key benefits:
Spironolactone blocks the action of aldosterone, a hormone that causes the kidneys to retain salt and water in the body. This hormone also has harmful effects on the cardiovascular system. By blocking aldosterone, spironolactone increases the excretion of salt and water in the urine. This decreases the total blood volume, reducing the heart’s effort to pump blood and thus improving its function.
Benazepril is a precursor, a substance that, in the body, is converted to benazeprilat. Benazeprilat is an “angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor.” ACE inhibitors reduce the production of angiotensin II, a powerful vasoconstrictor (a substance that narrows blood vessels). When the production of angiotensin II is reduced, the blood vessels relax and widen. This allows blood pressure to drop, reducing the workload on the heart.

Oral administration.
The tablets can be mixed with a small amount of food and given to the dog before the main meal or can be mixed directly into the food.
The tablets contain beef flavouring to improve palatability and clinical studies in dogs with chronic valvular degeneration have shown that 92% of the tablets were consumed in full and voluntarily, when given with/without food.
