Reduction of inflammation and pain caused by musculoskeletal disorders and degenerative joint processes.
Following parenteral analgesia, in the control of post-operative pain.
Intended for:
Dogs.

4 mg carprofen per kg body weight per day.
For the reduction of inflammation and pain caused by musculoskeletal disorders and degenerative joint processes:
– An initial dose of 4 mg carprofen per kg body weight per day, administered as a single daily dose or in two equally divided doses.
– The daily dose may be reduced depending on the clinical response.
– The duration of treatment will depend on the clinical response observed.
– Long-term treatments should be carried out under the regular supervision of a veterinarian.
– To extend the analgesic and anti-inflammatory effect post-operatively, pre-operative treatment with carprofen injection may be followed by the administration of carprofen tablets at a dose of 4 mg body weight/day for 5 days.
– Do not exceed the prescribed dosage.
Possible adverse effects:
Typical adverse reactions associated with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs have been reported, such as vomiting, soft faeces/diarrhoea, dark or bloody faeces, loss of appetite and lethargy. These adverse reactions usually occur within the first week of treatment and in the vast majority of cases are transient and disappear after the end of treatment, but in very rare cases they can be serious.
Rare cases of gastrointestinal bleeding have been reported. If adverse reactions occur, the product should be discontinued and the veterinarian should be notified.
If you notice serious reactions or other effects not mentioned in this leaflet, please inform your veterinarian.
Precautions:
Use in elderly dogs may involve additional risks. If administration to this category cannot be avoided, careful clinical supervision is recommended.
Avoid administration to dehydrated, hypovolaemic or hypotensive dogs as there is a risk of renal toxicity.
Simultaneous administration of potentially nephrotoxic drugs should be avoided.
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs may inhibit phagocytosis and therefore, when treating inflammation due to a bacterial infection, antibiotic therapy should be administered simultaneously.
Do not administer other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) simultaneously or within 24 hours of each other. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs can bind to plasma proteins and compete with other drugs that have a very high plasma protein binding rate, ultimately leading to toxic effects.
In the case of long-term treatments, the animal should be periodically consulted by the veterinarian.
Studies on laboratory animals (rabbits, rats) have demonstrated the fetotoxicity of carprofen at values close to the therapeutic dose. The safety of the product has not been established during pregnancy and lactation in bitches. Therefore, the administration of the product to pregnant or lactating bitches is contraindicated. Carprofen should not be administered with glucocorticoids.
Storage:
Store in a place protected from moisture and direct sunlight, at temperatures up to 25°C.
In case of overdose:
No signs of toxicity were observed when dogs were treated with carprofen at doses up to 6 mg/kg twice daily for 7 days (3 times the recommended dose of 4 mg/kg) and 6 mg/kg once daily for the following 7 days (1.5 times the recommended dose of 4 mg/kg).
There is no specific antidote for carprofen overdose. In this case, it is recommended to institute a therapy aimed at supporting general support.
Due to the fact that the tablets are flavored, it is recommended to store them in a safe place. In case of ingestion of large quantities, severe reactions may occur. If you suspect your dog has consumed tablets in excess of the recommended dose, contact your veterinarian.
