Furosoral 10 mg/40 mg tablets for dogs and cats are used for the treatment of hydrothorax, hydropericarditis, ascites and edema, especially associated with heart failure and renal dysfunction.
Ingredients:
· One tablet contains: Active substance: Furosemide 10 mg/40mg
· Excipients
Key benefits:
· Treatment of hydrothorax, hydropericarditis, ascites and edema, especially associated with heart failure and renal dysfunction.
Intended for:
· Dogs and cats.
Method of administration:
· Oral administration.
Presentation form:
· Blisters of 10 tablets.
Dosage:
· The recommended starting dose is 2.5-5 mg of furosemide per kg of body weight per day, corresponding to 1/2-1 tablet per 2 kg of body weight.
· In severe edematous cases or in refractory cases, the daily dose may be doubled initially.
· For maintenance, the daily dose should be adjusted by the veterinarian to the lowest effective dose, depending on the clinical response to treatment of the dog/cat.
Possible adverse effects:
· In rare cases, loose stools may occur. These signs are transient and mild and do not require discontinuation of treatment.
· Due to the diuretic action of furosemide, hemoconcentration and circulatory failure may occur. In the case of prolonged treatment, electrolyte deficit (including hypokalemia, hyponatremia) and dehydration may occur.
· If you notice serious reactions or other effects not mentioned in this leaflet, please inform your veterinarian.
Precautions:
· Do not use in animals presenting hypovolemia, hypotension or dehydration.
· Do not use in case of renal failure with anuria.
· Do not use in case of electrolyte deficiency.
· Do not use in case of known hypersensitivity to furosemide, sulfonamides or any of the excipients.
Special precautions for use in animals:
· Furosemide should be used with caution in case of pre-existing electrolyte and/or fluid imbalance, impaired liver function (may precipitate hepatic coma) and diabetes mellitus.
· In case of prolonged treatment, hydration status and serum electrolyte concentrations should be monitored frequently.
· Renal function and hydration status should be monitored 1-2 days before and after initiation of diuretics and ACE inhibitors.
· Therapeutic efficacy may be affected by increased drinking water intake. When the condition of the animal allows, water intake should be restricted to physiologically normal levels during treatment.
· Furosemide should be used with caution in patients with nephrotic syndrome.
Storage:
· Store in a place protected from moisture and direct sunlight, at temperatures up to 25°C.
In case of overdose:
· Doses higher than those recommended may cause transient deafness, problems with electrolyte and water balance, CNS effects (lethargy, coma, convulsions) and cardiovascular effects (hypotension, cardiac arrhythmias, collapse), especially in old and debilitated animals. Treatment is symptomatic.
