Clotrimazole skin solution is used for the treatment of fungal infections on the skin of the foot, between the fingers or toes, on the skin around the nail, on the skin of the body, superficial candidiasis on the skin.
Composition: 1g skin solution contains clotrimazole 10mg and excipients: ethyl alcohol, polyethylene glycol.
How to use:
– Adults: Apply topically 2–3 times a day, after washing the affected area (preferably with a soap with an alkaline pH). After application, gently massage the affected area, until the solution is completely absorbed.
– The duration of treatment depends on the location of the condition and its age, it is 1–3 weeks for pityriasis versicolor, 2 weeks for interdigital mycosis, 3–4 weeks for other dermatomycoses.
– In the case of mycosis of the ear canal (provided that the eardrum is intact) soak a cotton swab in the solution and place it in the canal, without being compressed too much.
– In interdigital mycosis it is very important to follow the hygiene rules and it is recommended to powder the socks and the inside of the shoes in the morning, so as not to favor the appearance of moisture due to sweat and thus prevent reinfection. Clotrimazole penetrates the skin, reaching deep to the base of the infectious process, and through its broad spectrum it constitutes an immediate, effective therapy.
– The duration of treatment depends on the severity of the infection and the location, and obtaining a lasting effect requires a continuation of the treatment for about 14 days, after the disappearance of symptoms.
– The duration of treatment is on average 4–5 weeks.
– In the elderly and children over 5 years of age, it is not necessary to adjust the doses.
Warnings:
– The drug is indicated for skin use only. Do not apply to mucous membranes. Contact with eyes should be avoided.
– It is not recommended to administer Clotrimazole skin solution if there are open wounds on the affected skin.
– Hygienic measures are very important in curing interdigital dermatomycosis (especially in the feet). After washing the feet, the interdigital spaces should be dried.
– Clotrimazole skin solution is applied only to clean and dry skin. After application, the affected area is not covered with dressing unless recommended by the doctor.
– If the symptoms do not improve after 4 weeks of treatment, it is recommended to consult a doctor and repeat the microbiological examination, in order to confirm the diagnosis and institute the appropriate therapy.
– Clotrimazole is not given to children under 5 years of age.
– Pregnancy and breast-feeding: It is recommended to avoid the use of clotrimazole in the first trimester. In the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, Clotrimazole skin solution should be used only if absolutely necessary, after careful evaluation by the doctor of the relationship of fetal potential risk/maternal therapeutic benefit. Since it is not known whether clotrimazole is excreted in breast milk after topical application, caution should be exercised in women during breastfeeding only if the physician considers that the therapeutic benefit outweighs the possible risk.
– Ability to drive or use machines: Clotrimazole skin solution has no influence on the ability to drive or use machines.
