What is Fucidin cream and what is it used for
Fucidin cream is part of a group of medicines called antibiotics. Fusidic acid, the active substance in Fucidin, works by killing bacteria that cause skin infections. Fucidin cream is indicated in:
– treatment of infections of cuts on the skin (infected wounds),
– treatment of hair follicle infections – infections located at the root of a hair on the skin – (folliculitis),
– treatment of infections located in the subcutaneous cellular tissue and skin (boils).
How to use Fucidin cream
Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as told by your doctor or pharmacist or nurse. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist or nurse if you are unsure.
This medicine is only indicated for application to your skin or that of your child. Don’t swallow it. Do not insert it inside the body.
Remove the lid. Before using the medicine for the first time, check that the seal (membrane) is intact. After that, push the tip of the cap through the seal, inside the tube.
Always, before using Fucidin cream, wash your hands. Apply the drug to the infected skin area and massage gently. If the infected area is on the face, be careful to avoid contact with the eyes.
If you are not using the medicine to treat hand infections, wash your hands after administration.
If the medicine has accidentally reached eye level, wash immediately with cold water to remove it. After that, if possible, wash with special eye solution. You may have a stinging sensation in your eyes. If you experience vision disturbances or if your eyes hurt, contact your doctor immediately.
Your doctor will recommend the dose of Fucidin cream. Usually, you need to apply the cream three to four times a day.
If you have been told to cover your infected skin area with a bandage, you may not need to use the medication as frequently. Always follow your doctor‘s recommendations.
If you are using more Fucidin cream than you should: if you have used a higher dose than recommended, please contact your doctor.
If you forget to use Fucidin cream: If you forgot to use Fucidin cream at the usual time, apply it as soon as possible after you remember. After that, continue the administration, according to the usual schedule. Do not apply a double dose to make up for the missed dose.
If you stop using Fucidin cream: follow your doctor‘s recommendations regarding the duration of treatment.Do not stop taking the medicine without first talking to your doctor.

Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although they do not occur in all people.
Other side effects reported:
Uncommon (may affect up to 1 in 100 users): dermatitis, skin irritation at the application site, redness of the skin, transient rash, itchy skin, burning sensation at the application site, pain at the application site.
Rare (may affect up to 1 in 1000 users): urticaria, phlycten, angioedema.
If the medicine is administered on an area of skin around the eyes, conjunctivitis may rarely occur.
