Composition
1 mg Colidem 50-water-soluble powder contains 10,000 IU Colistin sulfate.
Pharmacotherapeutic action
Colistin or polymyxin E is part of the group of polypeptide antibiotics and exerts its bactericidal action through its interaction with the phospholipids present in the structure of the bacterial cell membrane, whose biological functions it disrupts. It acts bactericidally on most Gram-negative bacteria (Salmonella, Pasteurella, Escherichia, Bordetella, Klebsiella, Enterobacter, Shigella, etc.). Some strains of Proteus spp. are not sensitive. It is very difficult to absorb from the gastrointestinal tract and therefore it is used for the bactericidal action it exerts on bacteria that develop at this level.
Indications
It is recommended to be used in the treatment of gastroenteritis in pigs and poultry caused by colistin-sensitive germs. To increase the spectrum of action, colistin can be associated with antibiotics from the tetracycline group or with sulfonamides.
Administration method and doses
In birds: administered orally, at a dose of 2-5mg Colidem 50-water-soluble powder/Kg live weight/day, for 3-5 consecutive days.
In birds in drinking water: 100-200 g Colidem 50-water-soluble powder per 1000 liters of water, for 3-5 consecutive days.
In pigs: administered orally, at a dose of 2-5mg Colidem50-water-soluble powder/Kg live weight/day, for 3-5 consecutive days.
In pigs in feed: 100-200g Colidem 50-water-soluble powder per 1,000Kg feed, for 3-5 consecutive days.
Contraindications. Adverse effects. Precautions
Cannot be combined with drugs that have bacteriostatic action. No adverse reactions have been recorded due to the fact that it is practically not absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. People handling the drug must wear protective equipment.
Withdrawal period
For meat: Pigs, poultry, 2 days from the last administration.
For eggs: 0 days from the last administration.
