Suspension for injection, for cattle, pigs, dogs.
COMPOSITION:
1 ml contains:
–Procaine benzylpenicillin (coated with lecithin) 200,000 IU (200 mg)
– Dihydrostreptomycin sulfate 200,000 IU equivalent to 200 mg dihydrostreptomycin base.
– Hydrochloric procaine
– Povidone
– sodium citrate (E331)
– sodium formaldehyde sulfoxylate
– sodium methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E219)
– water for injections.
INDICATIONS:
The product is administered to cattle, pigs, dogs in the treatment of infections caused by microorganisms susceptible to the action of penicillin G and/or dihydrostreptomycin: respiratory tract infections (transport fever, pasteurellosis, bronchopneumonia, pleuropneumonia), urogenital tract infections (pyelonephritis, nephritis, endometritis), mastitis, meningitis, measles in pigs, clostridial infections, tetanus, anthrax, leptospirosis, actinomycosis in cattle, polyarthritis and sepsis, bronchitis and arthritis in dogs. The drug can be used postoperatively to prevent infections.
CONTRAINDICATIONS:
Do not use in animals known to be hypersensitive to the components of the product. In renal failure. Intravenous administration.
SIDE EFFECTS:
Allergic reactions may occur in animals with hypersensitivity to penicillins (anaphylactic shock, urticaria, edema), such as cephalosporins and dihydrostreptomycin. Acute adverse effects have been reported following intramuscular use of procaine penicillin G, probably this action can be attributed to the procaine half of the antibiotic (abortion in sows and nervous reactions in pigs) or to inadvertent intravenous injection (shock, embolism, procaine toxicity).
TARGET SPECIES:
Cattle, pigs, dogs.
METHOD OF ADMINISTRATION:
By intramuscular, subcutaneous (in dogs, piglets) or intraperitoneal (in cattle) administration.
DOSAGE:
12,500 IU of penicillin G and 12.5 mg of dihydrostreptomycin (base) or 1 ml of Combi-kel 40 per 16 kg body weight once daily.
– Adult cattle, pigs: 12.5 ml/200 kg body weight/day
– Calves: 2.5 ml/40 kg body weight/day’
– Piglets, dogs: 0.25 ml/4 kg body weight/day
Duration of treatment: cattle 2-4 days; pigs 1-4 days, dogs 1-7 days.
SPECIAL WARNINGS:
Avoid administration of the suspension with other injectables in the same syringe. Massive doses of dihydrostreptomycin may cause particular neuromuscular blockade after accidental IV administration or intraperitoneal injection. The effects of dihydrostreptomycin are blocked by anesthetics, muscle-relaxants and nsuromusculars. Prolonged administration of high doses may lead to deafness, vestibular toxicity (ataxia, incoordination, nystagmus) and nephrotoxic signs. Treatment of antiallergic reactions: glucocorticoids or antihistamines.
