Trocoxil Chewable Tablets Dogs – selective COX 2 nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug, recommended for treatments lasting longer than one month in dogs

Indications:

For the treatment of pain and inflammation associated with degenerative joint disease in dogs when continuous treatment lasting longer than one month is indicated.

Presentation: boxes of 2 chewable tablets, triangular with a marbled brown appearance, with the concentration stamped on one side and the opposite side is blank

Recommended dose: 2 mg mavacoxib /kg body weight.

Administration: starting from 12 months of age and 3kg body weight

– The first two administrations are given at 14-day intervals, and then administered monthly

– A treatment cycle should not exceed 7 consecutive doses (6.5 months)

– For greater bioavailability, it is recommended to administer the tablet before or during the main meal

– Mavacoxib has a prolonged plasma half-life (up to > 80 days) due to the low elimination rate.

– Care is advised to avoid treating animals that may not tolerate prolonged exposure to NSAIDs.
– In animals with reduced clearance, a maximum treatment period of 6.5 months is recommended as continuous therapy
– Animals should be clinically examined before starting treatment with Trocoxil
– Laboratory tests for haematological and biochemical monitoring are recommended
– Animals with altered renal or hepatic function or evidence of enteropathy with blood or protein loss are not indicated for treatment with Trocoxil.
– It is recommended to repeat the clinical examination one month after starting treatment with Trocoxil and before administering the third dose with additional monitoring of clinical pathology, as appropriate, during treatment.
– Mavacoxib is excreted in the bile and in dogs with hepatic dysfunction, reduced clearance and therefore excessive accumulation may occur.
– Dogs with hepatic dysfunction should not be treated
– Avoid use in dehydrated, hypovolaemic or hypotensive animals as there is a potential risk of acute toxic renal failure.
– Concomitant administration of potentially nephrotoxic medicinal products should be avoided.
– Animals undergoing anaesthesia and/or surgery that may cause dehydration or compromise haemodynamic status should be provided with adequate fluid and haemodynamic support during treatment with Trocoxil. The main aim of the intervention is to maintain renal perfusion. In patients with recurrent renal disease, exacerbation or decompensation of renal disease may occur during therapy with NSAIDs.

Do not use in pregnant, breeding or lactating animals.
