NAME OF THE VETERINARY MEDICINAL PRODUCT
DEXA KEL 50ML
DESCRIPTION:
DEXA-kel 02 is a glucocorticoid in the form of an aqueous, milky-white, sterile, injectable suspension, in a brown glass bottle.
COMPOSITION:
Each ml of DEXA-kel 02 suspension contains: Dexamethasone 2 mg; Excipients up to 1ml.
PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTION:
Dexamethasone is a very potent glucocorticosteroid, whose anti-inflammatory effects are 30 times more intense than cortisone and 7-10 times more intense than prednisolone. In addition to its anti-inflammatory properties, dexamethasone has an extraordinary anti-allergic, anti-stress and gluconeogenic activity.
The mineralocorticoid activity is minimal.
INDICATIONS:
– Metabolic disorders such as ketosis in cattle and puerperal toxemia in sheep and sows.
– Non-infectious inflammatory processes, especially acute musculoskeletal inflammations, such as:
– As an aid in acute infectious diseases (e.g. mastitis, metritis, acute pneumonia) in combination with appropriate anti-infective therapy.
– Allergic conditions, such as: asthma, skin allergies (eczema, urticaria, pruritus, etc.), laminitis in horses and cattle, snake bites.
– Stress and shock conditions.
– Induction of parturition in ruminants in the last stage of gestation.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:
It is administered aseptically by intramuscular or subcutaneous injection:
Dogs: 0.1 – 0.2mg / kg, or 0.25 – 0.5 ml / 5kg.
Cattle, horses: 2.5 – 5mg / 100 kg, or 5 – 10 ml / 400kg body weight. For induction of parturition in cows (administration within 1 week until the expected calving date): 5mg /100 kg, or 2.5 ml /100kg.
Sheep, goats, pigs, calves: 2 – 4mg / 50kg, or 1 – 2ml / 50kg body weight. For puerperal toxemia and for induction of parturition in sheep and goats: 2.5mg / 10kg, or 6 ml / 50kg body weight.
If necessary, repeat at intervals of 2 days in dogs and 3 – 4 days in other animals.
By local aseptic injection (subcutaneous, intraarticular, or periarticular): depending on the extension of the area or joint, as well as the weight of the animal: 0.25 – 4 ml.
OVERDOSAGE:
Long-term treatment with high doses may cause symptoms of hypercorticism.
CONTRAINDICATIONS:
The use of DEXA-kel 02 is contraindicated in case of cardiac and renal failure, hypercorticism (Cushing’s syndrome), diabetes, osteoporosis, viremia.
PRECAUTIONS, ADVERSE EFFECTS:
The use of DEXA-kel 02 during the last trimester of pregnancy must be accompanied by special precautions, as it may induce parturition and premature parturition. When infection is present or suspected, corticosteroid therapy must be supported by appropriate antimicrobial therapy (as a certain degree of suppression of the immune response is established). Since the abrupt cessation of long-term administration of DEXA-kel 02 may result in adrenocortical insufficiency (symptoms of hypocorticism), it is recommended in this case to gradually reduce the doses.
Other possible adverse effects are: allergic reactions and laminitis; decreased milk production; retention secundinarum; endometritis and the birth of premature calves after induction of parturition.
WITHDRAWAL TIME:
Meat: 7 days.
Milk: 1 day.
INCOMPATIBILITIES AND INTERACTIONS:
DEXA-kel 02 should not be administered simultaneously with animal vaccination.
