NicoretteĀ® Freshmint spray is used to help you quit smoking when you want to. This is a type of treatment called Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT). It acts on the need to smoke in 60 seconds. To improve your chances of helping you quit smoking, you should also seek counseling and support if possible.
NicoretteĀ® Freshmint relieves nicotine withdrawal symptoms including the urge to smoke, symptoms that occur when you quit smoking. When you suddenly stop giving your body nicotine from tobacco, you will experience different types of unpleasant feelings called withdrawal symptoms. By using NicoretteĀ® Freshmint you can prevent or reduce these unpleasant feelings and the urge to smoke. This is because it will still deliver a small amount of nicotine to your body for a short period of time. Nicorette Freshmint is less harmful than smoking because it does not contain tar, carbon monoxide, or other toxins from cigarette smoke.
The chart below shows the recommended treatment for NicoretteĀ® spray in stages:
Stage I: Weeks 1-6
Use 1 or 2 sprays when you would normally smoke a cigarette or if the urge to smoke arises. If 2 sprays are required, subsequent doses may be administered as 2 consecutive sprays. Do not use more than 2 sprays at a time or 4 sprays per hour for 16 hours. The maximum dose is 64 sprays per 16 hours in any 24-hour period.
Stage II: Weeks 7-9
Start reducing the number of daily sprays. By the end of week 9 you should use HALF of the average number of daily sprays used in Stage I.
Stage III: Weeks 10-12
Continue to reduce the number of daily sprays so that you don’t use more than 4 sprays per day during week 12. When you have reached 2-4 sprays per day, you need to stop using NicoretteĀ® spray.
