PANAFEN INTERNAL ANTIPARASITE 100ML
PANAFEN, 100 mg/ml, oral suspension for horses, cattle, sheep and goats.
COMPOSITION:
1 ml suspension contains:
Active substance:
Fenbendazole …… 100 mg
Excipient:
Benzoic acid …… 8 mg
INDICATIONS:
It is administered in the treatment of parasitic infestations:
Horses:
– gastrointestinal nematodes: Strongyloides spp.
– trematodes: F. hepatica.
Cattle, sheep and goats:
– pulmonary nematodes: Dictyocaulus viviparus.
– gastrointestinal nematodes: Haemonchus spp., Trichostrongy/us spp., Ostertagia spp., Cooperia spp., Bunostromum spp., Nematodirus Neoascaris vitellorum, Trichuris spp.
– trematodes: F. hepatica.
CONTRAINDICATIONS:
Do not use in case of known hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients.
ADVERSE REACTIONS:
Fenbendazole may cause haematopoietic disorders and intestinal villous necrosis. Administered at the recommended dose, it does not cause allergic reactions.
The frequency of adverse reactions is defined using the following convention:
– Very common (more than 1 in 10 animals treated displaying adverse reactions during a treatment);
– Common (more than 1 but less than 10 animals in 100 animals treated);
– Uncommon (more than 1 but less than 10 animals in 1,000 animals treated);
– Rare (more than 1 but less than 10 animals in 10,000 animals treated);
– Very rare (less than 1 animal in 10,000 animals treated, including isolated reports).
If you notice any adverse reactions, even those not already included in this leaflet or you think that the medicine has not had any effect, please inform your veterinarian.
TARGET SPECIES:
Horses, cattle, sheep and goats.
DOSAGE FOR EACH SPECIES, ROUTE AND METHOD OF ADMINISTRATION:
Horses and cattle: administer 1 ml of product/13 kg body weight (equivalent to 7.5 mg fenbendazole/kg body weight).
Practical recommendations for calculating the dose:
Body Weight
40 kg – 3.0 ml
65 kg – 5.0 ml
135 kg – 10.0 ml
200 kg – 15.0 ml
265 kg – 20.0 ml
335 kg –Â 25.0 ml
400 kg –Â 30.0 ml
600 kg – 45.0 ml
Over 400 kg body weight, an additional dose of 3.75 ml will be administered for every 50 kg body weight.
Sheep and goats: 0.5 ml product/10 kg body weight will be administered orally (equivalent to 5 mg fenbendazole/kg body weight).
Practical recommendations for calculating the dose:

11-20 kg –Â 1.0 ml
21-30 kg –Â 1.5 ml
31-40 kg – 2.0 ml
41-50 kg – 2.5 ml
51-60 kg –Â 3.0 ml
61-70 kg –Â 3.5 ml
71-80 kg –Â 4.0 ml
Over 80 kg body weight, an additional dose of 0.5 ml will be administered for every 10 kg body weight.
RECOMMENDATIONS ON CORRECT ADMINISTRATION:
Shake the bottle before use.
Administration is only done under the supervision of a veterinarian.
In case of reinfestation, seek the advice of a veterinarian on the need to repeat and on the frequency of administration of the product.
To ensure a correct dose, the body weight will be determined as accurately as possible, the accuracy of the dosing device will be checked.
If animals are treated collectively, rather than individually, they will be grouped according to their body weight and dosed accordingly to avoid under- or overdose.
WITHDRAWAL PERIODS:
Meat and offal
Cattle: 9 days.
Sheep, goats: 18 days.
Milk
Cattle: 5 days.
Sheep, goats: 9 days.
Not authorised for use in horses whose meat is intended for human consumption.
SPECIAL STORAGE PRECAUTIONS:
Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
Store in the original tightly closed packaging, in a dry place, at temperatures below 25°C, protected from frost and direct light.
Do not use this veterinary medicinal product after the expiry date stated on the label.
Shelf life after first opening the immediate packaging: 3 months.
SPECIAL WARNINGS:
Special warnings for each target species:
Certain precautions should be taken to avoid practices that may increase the risk of resistance development, leading to ineffective treatment.
– Too frequent use of anthelmintics of the same class for a long period.
– Underdosing due to incorrect assessment of body weight, poor administration of the product or faulty calibration of the dosing device, if used.
Suspected clinical cases of anthelmintic resistance should be further investigated by appropriate tests (e.g. faecal egg reduction test). If the results of the test(s) suggest significant resistance to a particular anthelmintic, a product from another class of anthelmintic with a different mode of action should be used.
Special precautions for use in animals:
None.
Special precautions to be taken by the person administering the veterinary medicinal product to animals:
People with known hypersensitivity to fenbendazole or to the excipients of the product should avoid contact with the product. More serious reactions may occasionally occur. Swelling of the face, eyelids are serious signs requiring medical attention. Show the package leaflet to the physician. Avoid contact of the product with skin, eyes and mucous membranes. Wear protective gloves at all times when handling the veterinary medicinal product and when cleaning dosing devices. Wash hands after use. In case of contact with skin and/or eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water. Remove contaminated clothing immediately.
Use during pregnancy, lactation:
At the recommended dose, there are no restrictions on use in pregnant and lactating animals.
Interactions with other medicinal products or other forms of interaction:
None known.
Overdose (symptoms, emergency procedures, antidotes), if applicable:
No clinical signs appear with double doses. The indicated doses should be observed.
Major incompatibilities:
None known.
SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS FOR THE DISPOSAL OF UNUSED PRODUCT OR WASTE MATERIALS, IF ANY:
Medicinal products should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Ask your veterinarian for information on how to dispose of medicines no longer required. These measures help protect the environment. To prevent the active substance in the medicine from being released into the environment with feces, we recommend that animals are kept in stables during treatment and that feces are disposed of at the waste disposal site to be biologically and chemically inactivated.
