Ankermann Vitamin B12 is a medicine containing cyanocobalamin (vitamin B12) and is used in the treatment of vitamin B12 deficiency, especially in patients who:
Follow a strictly vegetarian diet;
It shows deficient absorption of vitamin B12.
Vitamin B12 deficiency can occur asymptomatically and can last for years before the patient’s health deteriorates.
Early symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency include tiredness and pallor, tingling in the hands and feet, unsteady gait, and decreased physical strength. Other symptoms of the nervous system may occur, such as burning sensation, numbness or pain in the hands or feet, and muscle weakness, confusion.

Adults:
The recommended daily dose is 1 tablet/day Ankermann Vitamin B12. This corresponds to 1000 μg cyanocobalamin daily.
In severe cases, it is initially recommended to take 2 tablets/day, corresponding to 2000 μg daily.
In case of severe neurological symptoms, it is recommended that treatment be initiated by parenteral administration of drugs containing cyanocobalamin (vitamin B12).
Children and adolescents:
Daily oral administration of up to 1000 μg cyanocobalamin is recommended as an alternative to injectable or infusion treatment with vitamin B12.
Elderly:
In the elderly, no dose adjustment is necessary.
Patients with renal impairment:
No dose adjustment of Ankermann Vitamin B12 is necessary in patients with moderate renal function disorders. In patients with severe renal impairment, a reduction in the dose of vitamin B12 is recommended. In addition, its blood concentration should be checked periodically.
Patients with hepatic impairment:
The safety of this medicine in patients with liver function disorders is unknown.
