1 ml contains: Oxytetracycline (as dihydrate): 200 mg
Excipients:
Sodium formaldehyde sulfoxylate: 5 mg;
Polyethylene glycol 400;
Propylene glycol;
Monoethanolamine;
Magnesium oxide;
Water for injections;
PHARMACOTHERAPEUTIC ACTION: Oxytetracycline is an antibiotic obtained from cultures of Streptomyces rimosus, with a broad antimicrobial spectrum, its bacteriostatic action (it acts by blocking protein synthesis in the bacterial cell) being exerted especially in the initial phase of the disease in acute forms of evolution of some infections. It acts effectively against Gram-positive and Gram-negative germs, mycoplasmas, chlamydia, rickettsiae and some protozoa; it diffuses well in tissues, even in poorly irrigated ones, being rapidly absorbed. It is eliminated from the body slowly, especially through urine, bile and feces, having a low toxicity regardless of the route of administration.
TARGET SPECIES: Cattle, sheep, goats, pigs.
INDICATIONS: Treatment of gastrointestinal, pulmonary, genital infections, foot rot, actinobacillosis, rubella, leptospirosis.
DOSAGE, ROUTE AND METHOD OF ADMINISTRATION: It is administered intramuscularly at a dose of 20 mg s.a./kg body weight, namely: – 1 ml Oxytetracycline FP 20% retard /10 kg body weight in cattle, sheep, goats and pigs. Depending on the evolution of the disease, the treatment is repeated at the same dose after 3 days. Do not administer more than 20 ml Oxytetracycline FP 20% retard in adult cattle, 10 ml in adult pigs and 5 ml in calves, sheep and goats at a single point. If the animals do not show an improvement in their health, consult a veterinarian for a reassessment of the diagnosis.
CONTRAINDICATIONS, PRECAUTIONS AND ADVERSE REACTIONS: Do not administer to animals with severe renal and hepatic insufficiency. Do not administer in case of hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients. A slight edema may appear at the inoculation site, which disappears in 2-3 days. Following treatment, the urine may be dark in color. During the osteogenesis process, tetracyclines can cause yellow staining of the teeth. It can be used during pregnancy and lactation. Avoid administering oxytetracycline in combination with penicillins, cephalosporins and aminoglycosides. Oxytetracycline forms inactive complexes with calcium, magnesium, manganese, iron, aluminum salts. It is inactivated by sodium lactate, oxacillin, promethazine. Tetracyclines should not be overdosed due to intestinal dysmicrobism, nephrotoxicity, negative effects on calcification. Do not combine with corticosteroids because they mask and disseminate the infection.
