Precautions:
Before using Betadine, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
Store in a refrigerator (2º-8ºC), in the original packaging.
Pregnancy, lactation and fertility:
During pregnancy and lactation, povidone iodine should only be used if strictly indicated and for the shortest possible time.
During pregnancy and lactation, large amounts of povidone iodine should not be administered because iodine passes through the placenta and into breast milk and may thus increase the sensitivity of the fetus or newborn to iodine. Furthermore, iodine is concentrated in breast milk compared to the concentration in serum.
The use of povidone iodine may induce transient hypothyroidism (reduced thyroid gland activity) in the fetus or newborn. It may be necessary to monitor the child’s thyroid gland function. Possible oral ingestion of the solution by the infant must be avoided.
Fertility:
Spermicides or intravaginal medications (antifungals, antitrichomoniasis, antibacterial antiseptics, antiherpetic agents, or local estrogen preparations): any intravaginal treatment with local action may inactivate local contraceptives.
Driving and using machines:
Betadine does not influence the ability to drive or use machines.
