Composition
1 ml of injectable solution contains 100 mg enrofloxacin.
Indications
Cattle: diseases of the gastrointestinal and respiratory tract caused by bacteria and mycoplasmas (enteritis and septicemia caused by E.coli, pasteurellosis, salmonellosis, staphylococci, mycoplasmosis) and secondary infections in viral diseases;
Pigs: diseases of the respiratory and gastrointestinal tract caused by microorganisms susceptible to enrofloxacin (pasteurellosis, enzootic pneumonia, bacterial bronchopneumonia, salmonellosis, M.M.A. syndrome, atrophic rhinitis).
Target species
Ruminants, Pigs
Doses and method of administration
The curative dose in cattle and pigs is 2.5 mg enrofloxacin/kg body weight, respectively 2.5 ml/100kg body weight. In recurrent respiratory tract infections and salmonellosis, the dose is doubled, respectively 5 mg enrofloxacin per 1kg body weight (5 ml Eroxil/100kg body weight). In cattle, the preparation is administered s.c. and in pigs i.m. Enrofloxacin is administered in the usual places of application, for example, in pigs in the posterior auricular muscle area. The dose applied in a single point will not exceed 5 ml in cattle, 2.5 ml in pigs, 5 ml in sows. In salmonellosis, therapy in calves is initiated with the injectable form and continues with the oral form. The drug is repeated at an interval of 24 hours. The treatment lasts 2-3 days and 5 days in salmonellosis. In M.M.A. syndrome, 1-2 treatments are necessary in sows.
Action
Enrofloxacin is a chemotherapeutic agent from the fluoroquinolone group (quinolone derivative of carboxylic acid). It acts bactericidal at low concentrations against most Gram-negative, Gram-positive bacteria and mycoplasmas. The specific mechanism of action of enrofloxacin consists in interfering with DNA synthesis in the cell nucleus of the microorganism, also determining the prevention of resistance phenomena. At the same time, it is extremely active against microorganisms resistant to beta-lactam antibiotics, tetracyclines, aminoglycosides and macrolides. It is rapidly absorbed from the site of administration and distributed into tissues where it reaches a level several times higher than the serum concentration, in approximately ½- 1 hour after administration. Enrofloxacin is active against the following microorganisms: Mycoplasma spp., E.coli, Salmonella spp., Campylobacter spp., Haemophilus spp., Pasteurella spp., Bordetella spp., Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae, Klebsiella spp., Proteus spp., Vibrio parahaemolyticus, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus spp.(B, C, E) and against enterococci.
Contraindications
Do not use in case of disturbances in cartilage development and/or damage to the locomotor system. Do not administer in case of hypersensitivity to the active substance or resistance to quinolones. Do not administer to horses.
